On visiting Manor House, The Inn at Norfolk, CT (1898)

O house of a bygone age
  with your warm brown wood
    and cozy printed wallpaper
  with soft down beds
and our ancestors watching o'er us
  with rooms in tasteful clutter
    of intricate wrought iron
    and crystal glass --
  with alcoves, fireplaces, porches,
    and an elevator
  with turns down hallways to
    new Victorian beauty
and stairs leading to more intrigue,
Here we can rest for a moment
Among the luxury of a bygone time
   Remembering only its romance
To renew, to restore, to relax
To finally return
